Without a doubt, one of the most iconic and easily explored lands by car is New Zealand. Auckland is one of the most iconic cities across New Zealand as a whole, however it is located on the North Island, surrounded by the famous scenery which the country is known for. In the city you will find countless shopping and dining opportunities, as well as the Sky Tower with views as far as the Viaduct Harbour, and the Auckland Domain, which is one of the oldest parks in the region.

Ambury Regional Park

Located in the south of the city you will find this working farm, however it isn’t just a farm, it is an educational centre and nature hotspot too. The scenery around the park is simply stunning, as it is located on top of ancient ash lava flows, part of important Maori history too.

Aotea Track, Great Barrier Island

This is an island which is easy to get to, however you will need to either fly there (30 minutes), or you can take the ferry. Situated on the western side of the Hauraki Gulf Marine Park, there are some stunning sights to explore, including plenty of walking trails to check out too. The beauty of the island is rugged and extreme, with plenty of nature to enjoy.

Awhitu Peninsula

In the south of the city you will find this natural wonder, located around an hour from the city centre. The area feels off the beaten track, despite its close proximity to the large metropolis, with black sand beaches and beautiful cliff top walks to enjoy. The important Manukau Heads Lighthouse is one of the few lighthouses in the whole of New Zealand which is open to the public, making this a must visit. Surfing and paragliding is also great here.


Northern Auckland is home to beautiful Birkenhead, which boasts sea views from every direction, with plentiful nature too. The Chelsea Sugar Refinery is located here, which was built back in 1884, and you can head to the top of it for stunning views of the region. The dining options here are also fantastic and plentiful.


Close to Birkenhead, still in the northern portion of the city, you will find charming Davenport and its sandy beaches. There are countless cafes, shops and art galleries to enjoy, with nature at every corner.
